What’s new?

“Technical progress in CIRCALGAE has reached a turning point as the most promising extracts from algae by-products have been selected to reach semi-pilot scale. Protein rich concentrates from microalgae spent biomass, colloids and protein-fibre ingredients from macroalgae, as well as cellulose, fucoidans and sunflower oil extracts (below) will now be incorporated as ingredients into food/feed or cosmetic formulations, respectively.

Tests and a thorough characterization have shown a very interesting potential in anti-inflammatory, prebiotic or antioxidant performance of several selected ingredients. Protein rich fractions are meant to serve as a balancing ingredient partially replacing plant protein. These results are now transformed by the scientific partners into open access publications in all cases where there is no sensitive IP for the consortium. On-going work revolves in the incorporation of these ingredients in the 12 CIRCALGAE demonstrators. Relevant quantities are being produced, replicating the best process conditions at higher scale and all relevant partners from the different sectors will now generate fully novel products using CIRCALGAE ingredients.

We are excited to see the behaviour of the formulations in the next stage of CIRCALGAE. Stay tuned on our official website and through channels at LinkedIn, X or Facebook!”
