Report of the Definition of Requirements and Specifications for Final Products

In this report, CEAMSA and Salata, as partners in charge of the validation of ingredients in food applications, in collaboration with cosmetic validators, RNB, Saponia and Zeto; and Nutrition Science, responsible for feed applications, worked together on the definition of functional and safety requirements of ingredients developed in the project frame. Apart from mentioned partners, CSIC and SAFE played an important role on the revision of the different amendments with a global perspective of the project needs.

The WP3 of CIRCALGAE project is focused on the characterization of bioactive ingredients developed in the scope of WP2 but also on the development of suitable formulations including developed biomolecules for food, cosmetic and feed industries.

D3.1 report gathers all relevant properties, specifications and requirements that the extracted biomolecules should attain, including but not exclusive to biochemical composition, purity, rheology, presence of contaminants, prebiotic markers for food and feed formulations, but also thickening and emulsifying properties and bioactivities for cosmetics.

It is divided in several sections according to the needs of each industry (food, feed and cosmetic) and specific sub-application.

This report aimed to narrow down the extraction process applied during WP2 and guide the selection of the most relevant biopolymers according to end-user’s requirements.

The main objectives pursued during the drafting of this deliverable were:

1) Define all relevant properties, specifications and requirements that the extracted biomolecules from WP2 should attain.

2) Define specific needs and market opportunities of each sub-application from the different industries.

3) Guide and optimize the extraction process applied during WP2 and the selection of the most relevant biopolymers according to end-user’s requirements.

4) Prioritize the most relevant properties according to market needs and opportunities.

The deliverable 3.1 was successfully validated this summer with the M18 report and it is available for all CIRCALGAE partners to serve as a development guide during project course; but also available to the public, following the grant agreement.
